Former Sporting Lisbon’s midfielder, Bruno Fernandes joined Manchester united in a highly coveted move during the January transfer window.

He came in with a winner’s reputation and he has so far done his reputation no harm.

You could feel the thrills that flowed through the bloodstreams of the Red devils fans after the his signing was made officially.

When Bruno Fernandes arrived Manchester United , he joined a team who had been jeered off by their own fans in a home defeat by Burnley days earlier.

The atmosphere at the old trafford was called “toxic” and the performance was an embarrassment.

But a signing later, Ole Gunnar solskjaer United are a side transformed. They have not lost a game and are playing with flair and enterprise, with Fernandes the heartbeat.

Against Brighton on Tuesday, the portuguese midfielder scored twice in a 3-0 win, one that included a scintillating volley to maintain his side’s charge for Champions league qualification. His general performance and link up with Paul Pogba was amazing to watch.

His defensive capabilities are also impressive, with three tackles, gaining possession back twice against Brighton.

In the twelve games he has featured in all competitions, united have won eight and drawn four, scored 28 goals while conceding just four.

Since his debut in february, Fernandes has been involved in more goals than any premier league player with six goals and four assists.

victory against Brighton has propelled United to fifth, which would be enough to secure a Champions league spot if Manchester city’s European competition ban is upheld.

“They have reason to be confident because they are playing fantastically”, Solskjaer told BBC sport. “There is quality in that team, our players are fit and we have competition for places now.

“I have got more than one game-changer, we have some top players and Bruno has come and been fantastic. He has brought that winning mentality with him, that 99% is not good enough – it has to be 100%

Bruno Fernandes has always played with elegance at former club, Sporting Lisbon and he has continued at his new club to show that he is a player that can consistently perform at a top level.

Manchester United has hardly put a foot wrong with Bruno Fernandes on the pitch, and now with the Red devils on the verge of securing a Champions league spot after an abysmal start to the season, makes me wonder ; is Bruno Fernandes Manchester United’s Knight in shinning armour?
